Whether you choose a traditional home cooking experience, a lively market visit, a countryside bicycle ride, or a journey through Tra Que Village and the coconut forest, every option centers around gathering together in the family kitchen to prepare and share a seasonal Vietnamese meal using recipes and techniques passed down through generations.

Experience Options

Option 0: Family Cooking Experience
Meet directly at Dong Family’s home for an intimate cultural and culinary experience centered around hospitality, tradition, and home cooking. Enjoy a warm welcome before joining Dong and his family in the kitchen to prepare a variety of traditional Vietnamese dishes using techniques and recipes passed down through generations.

Option 1: Market Visit + Family Cooking Experience

Meet Dong at a vibrant local market and experience the colors, aromas, and rhythms of daily life in Hoi An. Learn about the herbs, spices, and seasonal ingredients that define central Vietnamese cuisine before taking a short walk to the family home for your hands-on cooking experience.

Option 2: Tra Que Village + Market + Family Cooking Experience

Begin with hotel pick-up by motorbike or car (for groups of 2 or more) and journey to Tra Que Vegetable Village, a small farming community known for its organic herbs and traditional cultivation methods. Here, you’ll meet local farmers and learn how herbs are grown using time-honored techniques passed down through generations. Continue to the local market before returning to the family home to cook together.

Option 3: Tra Que Village + Market + Family Cooking Experience + Bicycle Ride

Enjoy everything included in Option 2, with the added charm of exploring the countryside by bicycle. Ride at an easy pace through peaceful village roads, rice fields, and local neighborhoods for a deeper connection to local life in Hoi An. Dong will share insight into rural life in Hoi An as you experience an unhurried and authentic glimpse into the region’s traditions.

Option 4: Tra Que Village + Coconut Boat + Market + Family Cooking Experience

This immersive cultural experience includes hotel pick-up by motorbike, a visit to Tra Que Village, and a stop at the local market before enjoying a traditional basket boat ride through the coconut forest. Try your hand at traditional crab fishing for a fun and authentic Hoi An experience before returning to the family home for cooking and lunch.

A sample seasonal menu may include:

  • Steamed rice cakes

  • Hoi An rice pancakes

  • Tôm Hữu (special fresh spring roll)

  • Deep-fried spring rolls

  • Grilled pork or fish in banana leaf
